From Business Success to Community Leadership

Heather, a longtime resident of the southeast and mother of two, has made significant strides in both the business world and community development. With a diverse background spanning paralegal work, insurance, and entrepreneurship, Heather scaled and sold five businesses by 2022. Her journey from a 9th-grade dropout to a thriving business leader and community advocate is a testament to her resilience and commitment.

The NU Training Experience

Heather's involvement with the Neighborhood University (NU) began with a quest for empowerment and change. Despite her extensive business experience, she had little knowledge of community development. Her previous experiences with CONO's Executive Director piqued her interest in NU, offering her a chance to learn and grow in new areas. Heather credits NU training with expanding her horizons and fueling her desire to give back to the community.

As a positive role model who overcame significant life challenges, Heather has become an influential figure in her community. Her journey from overcoming personal hardships, including a past marked by drug use and felony charges, to becoming a leader in the Southeast is inspiring. Heather's passion for community service led her to refer 15 people to NU and establish the Southeast Business Coalition (SBC), which recently saw its first meeting attended by 24 local businesses and Mayor Yemi.

The Impact of NU Training

Heather emphasizes the importance of knowledge and collective action, particularly within the Southeast community. She believes that real change begins at the grassroots level, advocating for increased neighborhood involvement and planning. Through NU, Heather has found a powerful platform for community engagement and has promoted volunteerism and local activism.

Her involvement in Lunch and Learn Training has been equally impactful, providing valuable insights and resources for community members. Although Heather is not interested in joining the Neighborhood Network Board, she remains dedicated to connecting and empowering others within her community.

Heather's story is a powerful reminder of how personal growth and community development can go hand in hand. Her leadership and dedication continue to inspire others to engage with their neighborhoods and drive positive change.
