CONO Helps Neighbors Establish Neighborhood Resiliency
One year after its 2022 re-launch, CONO has set its sights on supporting Neighborhood Resiliency in at-risk communities. This effort will lend access to CONO’s technical expertise in creating neighborhood governing bodies in two ways:
Neighborhoods with little to no recognized association
Neighborhoods facing economic or social threats
CONO received a grant from the Colorado Trust in November 2022 to start this endeavor in the Hillside Neighborhood in south central Colorado Springs located in District 4B Neighborhood Network. Currently, no formal neighborhood association exists in the Hillside Neighborhood. CONO’s work with residents of the Hillside Neighborhood will last one calendar year and culminate in a formal filing of governing documents along with elections of executive officers and representatives.
Once residents are trained and elected, the future Hillside Neighborhood Association will be able to advocate on local issues with the full support of their neighborhood. CONO has joined forces with the Hillside Neighborhood to educate, equip, and engage residents toward a more vibrant community in south-central Colorado Springs.
Although CONO is starting with the Hillside Neighborhood, CONO’s goal is to create a self-sustaining and thriving community so we can ultimately continue the Resilient Neighborhood Networks and Associations in other at-risk communities.
